We want you to get to know our LBX family a little better! That’s why we’re introducing a new series on the blog that highlights different tenants throughout the center.
First up, we’re introducing you to Susan Sarich, Founder and CEO of our favorite bakery, SusieCakes. Learn more about Susan’s favorite memories from SusieCakes’ LBX location and hear a special shoutout to you, the LBX community.
Name: Susan Sarich
Title: Founder and CEO of SusieCakes
Why do you love working at LBX and/or what’s a favorite memory from your time working at the center?
Our SusieCakes Long Beach bakery opening was one of my all-time favorite openings! We had sunny days leading up to the event and then quickly had to pivot for a rainy day opening, but that didn’t stop our guests from lining up all day. The turn-out was overwhelming! We had a line zig-zagging out the door. Despite the rain, everyone had a smile on their face!
Where does your passion for baking come from?
I grew up baking every day after school with my two grandmothers Mildred and Madeline. This became such a special tradition of ours and, when I was older, I inherited their 3×5 handwritten recipe cards. I founded SusieCakes to honor their recipes and with a commitment to providing women with progressive careers in the food & hospitality industry.
What is your favorite item on the SusieCakes menu?
I love our Celebration Cake! It’s 6-layers of vanilla cake baked with colorful sugar confetti, filled & frosted with our signature retro-blue vanilla frosting.
What is your favorite restaurant at LBX?
I can’t visit Long Beach without picking up a coffee from Portola Coffee Roasters!
Is there anything you would like to say to the Long Beach community at large?
Thank you for your continued love and support! We are so grateful to be part of the Long Beach community and look forward to many more celebrations together!
